About our Pastor, John M. Stephen

Pastor John M. Stephen received his Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.  Pastor John came to Middlebury Baptist Church in 1999 with his wife, Cheryl.  John and Cheryl are lifelong residents of Connecticut and have one daughter, Erica.

About our Associate Pastor, Tony Mazza

Pastor Tony Mazza received his Bachelor of Arts in History at Messiah College in Pennsylvania and went on to receive his Masters of Divinity at Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia. PA.  Pastor Mazza was ordained into the Ministry in March of 2000 at Woodlyn Baptist Church in Woodlyn, PA.  Tony and his wife, Mary, have three children - Rachel, Marie and David.

• Holy Spirit - We desire the fullness of the Holy Spirit and in humility recognize our need  for the Spirit to more fully own, control and inhabit our lives (Ephesians 5:18, Luke 24:9)

           A.  We want the Holy Spirit to lead and direct ministries of the church (Acts 13:1-4)     

          B.  We need spiritual leaders who are filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 6:4-5, Acts 3:9 

• Participating  - Our desire is to participate in what God is doing.  We want to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading in all things by prayerfully seeking God's will, looking for His leading in all things and then join Him in what He is doing. (John 5:19-20
• Worship - We recognize that there is a sense in which our lives are to be a continuous act of worship of God.  In our corporate gatherings for worship, we desire to become a people who seek and hunger after God.  (Psalm 42:1)
• Discipleship - Through the preaching and teaching of God's Word, we will equip the saints to grow in spiritual maturity.  (Ephesians 4:11-13)
• Servanthood - We desire to follow Christ's example by serving one another in love.  We recognize that every member is a minister and that we are to be co-laborers in Christ.  (John 13:33-35, 1 Peter 2:9-10, Galatians 5:13)
• Relationships - We recognize our need for supportive faith - building relationships between brothers and sisters in Christ. (Romans 14:9, Ephesians 4:29)
• Missions - We desire to declare God's glory through our support of Missions (Psalm 96:3)
• Outreach/Evangelism - We desire to reach out to our community with the love of Christ by ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of people.  (Luke 10:30-37, Hebrews 12:12-13)
• Prayer - We acknowledge our need to be led by the Lord in all things in our church and in our personal lives. ( Isaiah 30:21, 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Philippians 4:6)
